DAY 1: The Various Types of Fossil Fuels and their Primary Uses Objective:
Lesson Outline:
After this day, students should be able to describe each fossil fuel (oil, coal, natural gas) and list usages for each. Students should take notes in their science notebooks during the presentation to outline what distinguishes each fossil fuel. Students should also take notes of the many usages of each fossil fuel during the group presentations, including their own, to have a running list of fossil fuel uses in their science notebooks. Important vocabulary (helpful for students to write in science notebooks): oil, coal, natural gas, fuel, fossil, fossil fuel, energy, renewable resource. Students should be introduced to the idea that many types of plastic are made from fossil fuels. |
